Electronic artist and multi-instrumentalist Flash Horton, whose journey began on a U.S. Air Force base in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, announces the release of his latest project, "The Street EP," a contemplative collection that showcases his evolving artistic vision.
Born into a military family—with a mother in the Air Force and father in the Army—Horton's musical foundation was shaped by his upbringing in Augusta, GA, before finding his artistic home in Raleigh, NC. His musical palette was enriched by a diverse array of influences: Hip-Hop, Funk, and R&B from his father; classic R&B and gospel from his mother; and Neo-soul and alternative rock introduced by his older sister. During his teenage years, Horton expanded his musical horizons to embrace Crunk music, Alternative, and Punk Rock.
His formal musical training began in high school, where he distinguished himself as drumline captain, leading his team to four consecutive first-place competition victories. This percussion expertise expanded to include guitar, piano, and various other instruments. While attending North Carolina A&T State University, Horton discovered his passion for DJing, further inspired by an transformative encounter with electronic dance music during a spring break trip to Panama City Beach.
Post-college, Horton established himself in the electronic music scene as both producer and DJ. His versatility has led to notable achievements, including opening for Cosmic Gate at The Fruit in Durham, NC, this summer. Following his high-energy EP "Track," the new "Street EP" reveals a more nuanced side of his artistry, crafted specifically for contemplative moments and leisurely drives.
The EP spans multiple electronic subgenres, including Deep House, Melodic Techno, Future Garage, and Disco House, featuring collaborative tracks with vocalist Dafne Martinez on standout songs "Overtaking" and "Enchant." Where "Track" channeled racing adrenaline, "Street" invites listeners to embrace quieter moments, exploring themes of introspection, love, and escape.
