Renowned artist King Joseph, born Joseph Dempsey Franklin on June 9, 1980, originally from Brookhaven, MS, and the progeny of Loretta Franklin and Howard Kelly, relocated with his family to Sacramento, CA, in 1984. His upbringing unfolded amidst the burgeoning hip-hop culture of the early 90s, amid inner-city challenges and influences. Music became King Joseph's refuge, particularly captivated by the storytelling element within hip-hop, influenced by luminaries such as E-40, The Click, C-bo, RBL Posse, Ice Cube, and Master P.

In 1997, a significant transition occurred as King Joseph journeyed to the Midwest, encountering personal hurdles but finding support and mentorship from his Uncle Roddy Kelly. Together, they engaged in various endeavors, instilling in King Joseph a hustler's mindset. Immersed in street life, he found his passion for rap flourishing, forming alliances and crafting music with newfound peers.

Upon his uncle's return to Mississippi, King Joseph followed suit, establishing their own recording studio. Despite years of recording, finding his unique sound proved elusive. In 2008, a pivotal return to California led King Joseph to Sacramento City College, where he pursued music studies, refining his skills in beat-making and recording.
